Poor Little Kittens

So, I woke up this morning to my mom running into my room telling me that my dad had found a kitten in the middle of the yard. We already knew whose kitten it was: Priscilla. The black and white stray that's been here since SHE was born and HER mom ran off. We tried to take care of her when she was a kitten, but she was too skittish...but that's another matter.

Anyways, the placenta was still attached to the kitten, it was dirty and crying, and we knew from how Priscilla was that she'd abandoned the kitten. Just to be sure though, we tried to get her to take it. However, she refused to acknowledge the kitten. So, we took the kitten, fed it, and found it a warm place to sleep. Then, a few hours later, my dad found two more behind a broken piece of wood in the back yard. We called the vet, got instructions on how to care for them, and took the kittens in. The vet thanked us for caring for the abandoned kittens!

Well, I wish it would end with just the three kittens who were found in places relatively safe...however, it doesn't. I was walking through the back yard, trying to find the mama cat and check on her, when I heard a squeaking sound coming from the back of the truck. I looked inside and found yet another kitten, struggling to get out from under a toolbox and thick metal chain! Priscilla had given birth to one of her kittens in a spot that, if I hadn't found it, it would have suffocated from the weight pressing down on it! Well, luckily I'd found it and it's now safe and sound in the makeshift bed with it's two sisters and one brother. Thank God that the poor little kittens are safe now.

For anyone who gets into a similar situation and has to become a surrogate kitten mother, here's a link for information on what to do-> http://www.ehow.com/how_2054061_take-care-abandoned-kittens.html
